Huntington Beach
Huntington Beach is one of the northernmost cities in Orange County. Taking Pacific Coast Highway, it is just a few minutes drive from Long Beach. Whereas many OC beaches have an air of exclusivity, Huntington Beach, perhaps in part to its proximity to the quintessential laid-back LA, is a casual retreat from the rest of OC life. This is not to say it's a quiet town, on the contrary a warm summer night near the Huntington Beach pier may be as busy and boisterous as any lively place in Southern California. The focus here is Main Street. Shops and restaurants grow even more plentiful as you close in on PCH. Across the street from this intersection is the pier itself. Battered through several winter storms, the pier was last rebuilt in 1988 and is a focus for much of the activity in the city.
Surfing is, without question, the key sport in this town. In fact, it's the first spot to have taken up the sport after its import from Hawaii just after the turn of the 20th century. There is even a surfing museum just up Main. Many shops around here are dedicated to surf, sand and beach living. The Pierside Pavilion is a large cluster of shops, restaurants and movie theaters located, again, just across from the pier. If you don't surf and you've had your fill of watching the waves, you can rent a bicycle and ride up and down the beachside bike paths or hike in the Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve which is a very short drive from the water. If you're here at the end of summer look out for the surfing competition - a televised annual August event.

Considered to be the most tourist packed spot in Chicago, Navy Pier is actually located on Lake Michigan; it extends about a mile into from the shore. The hustle and bustle of this spot is unbelievable! The number of events and activities going on in this place is quite astounding. Opened in 1916, the pier was designed for both shipping and recreational...More
