Montana Avenue
Nearing the northern edge of the city of Santa Monica is Montana Avenue. The general area is largely residential and upscale. Over the past several years this street has gained a reputation for some interesting, if expensive, shopping. You might say much of what is offered is bohemian-conservative - if that is even possible (although it must be since such a designation seems to be increasingly accurate as many young people are quickly gaining riches; thus bringing a need for edgy but nice objects d'art). However, enough variety is offered to have attracted such celebrities as Madonna and Sharon Stone.
There are a few good eateries here too. Many tend to be upscale chain restaurants. Most seem to be busiest on weekend mornings. The locale being popular with the health set, cyclists, joggers and power-walkers frequently plan a breakfast or juice stop here. Throw in a newsstand and this makes a great, relatively quiet retreat any morning or afternoon.

Opened in 1916, the pier was designed for both shipping and recreational...More
