Rodeo Drive
Few streets are as recognized by name as this one in Beverly Hills. There is good reason. For shopping, the most famous of the famous are found here: Gucci, Armani, Hugo Boss, Hermes and Harry Winston. Located in the center of the "Golden Triangle," formed by Wilshire Boulevard on the South and Santa Monica Boulevard and Rexford Road on the northern sides, Rodeo is inherently elite. Yet thanks to the Southern California setting it's also oddly communal. The reasons for going here differ from person to person. If you're like most people you will probably concentrate on a less pricey activity - say window-shopping. However, if you're ready to buy, be prepared to buy big. Extravagantly priced items are easily come by here. Some of the most exclusive stores may not even let you in without a prior "shopping reservation." This novelty approach to exclusivity began to pop up in the 1970s and is still with us. Via Rodeo (aka Two Rodeo) is at the immediate southeast corner of Wilshire and Rodeo. You might consider this a high-end version of Universal's City Walk. Modeled after a quaint European shopping district, this pretty spot is clustered with two and three story buildings filled with luxurious clothing, jewelry and art.
It's not all shopping though. After such hard work you will certainly need to eat. Neighboring streets like Canon and Rexford both have fine restaurants suited to whatever your budget requires. From pizza and deli food to Chinese Noveau, Beverly Hills has it. Other attractions include the Beverly Hills City Hall built in 1932 blending Spanish Colonial Revival with Baroque elements - perhaps an odd mix but one that works well in this city. Further up, on Sunset at Rodeo is the famous (or, infamous) Beverly Hills Hotel. Found on the cover of the Eagle's "Hotel California" this playground of the wealthy is currently owned by the Sultan of Brunei.

Featured Spot: Navy Pier
|
Considered to be the most tourist packed spot in Chicago, Navy Pier is actually located on Lake Michigan; it extends about a mile into from the shore. The hustle and bustle of this spot is unbelievable! The number of events and activities going on in this place is quite astounding. Opened in 1916, the pier was designed for both shipping and recreational...More
