TriBeCa
The "Triangle Below Canal Street" became a popular neighborhood for artists and other locals seeking relief from the increasing prices in SoHo in the late 1980's. Old industrial warehouses were converted into beautiful, spacious lofts and worn-away building fronts were given makeovers by their owners, aware of the increasing interest in the area. Soon after, the neighborhood received a tremendous financial boost when Robert DeNiro established the TriBeCa Film Center and Miramax headquarters moved in. By the 1990's, the real estate boom transformed the small-town feeling of TriBeCa forever. Contemporary, steel high-rises are sprouting up next to the historic buildings, whose brick and iron façades still bespeak of a New York of decades past. Luxury apartments can be found adjacent to city government offices, and peaceful cobblestone streets contrast with the heavily trafficked truck routes. The migration of influential families led to the disappearance of the apartment bargains of years past. Now, celebrities and the upper echelon inhabit the majority of the converted warehouses in expensive loft apartments.
It is no longer difficult to find specialty shops, relaxing nightspots or good food. Artists' studios and galleries, hip antiques and design shops, and some of the city's most notable restaurants dot the area. The fare ranges from cappuccino cafes serving croissants to exotic Burmese cuisine, and everything in between. Boutiques cater to the well to do, but window-shopping here is exciting in itself. Balancing the hustle of busy TriBeCa streets is the second oldest public park in New York City, Duane Park, which is centrally located at the intersection of Duane and Hudson Streets. In 1994, a non-profit organization was founded to restore the park and help maintain the peaceful, unhurried feeling that the area provides. A touch slower paced than similarly popular neighborhoods, and not overbearing with retail stores and bars, the area is well traveled by tourists who appreciate the balance TriBeCa has found.

Considered to be the most tourist packed spot in Chicago, Navy Pier is actually located on Lake Michigan; it extends about a mile into from the shore. The hustle and bustle of this spot is unbelievable! The number of events and activities going on in this place is quite astounding. Opened in 1916, the pier was designed for both shipping and recreational...More
