Westwood Village

On the Westside and north of Wilshire Boulevard is Westwood Village. The architecture here is essentially red brick buildings. Much of it went up in the late 1920s. So did the nearby campus of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) which has helped to create the atmosphere of this little village over the years. Today it is essentially a college town and is easily explored on foot.
On the southern end is the Armand Hammer Museum of Art. This is largely filled with works from the private collection of the museum's namesake. If you head up Westwood Boulevard you'll find many restaurants and small shops. However, Broxton Avenue arguably makes up the main strip of the village. Here are less expensive eateries, record stores and movie theaters. An instantly recognizable image is The Dome, now a record store but formerly the offices of a firm responsible for doling out the surrounding real estate development and community. Spend an afternoon strolling the sidewalks, soaking up the college-town feel. If you're looking for a book and you can't find it in the Village feel free to explore the UCLA campus. Their excellent Student Union is sure to have the title you need. Have lunch on the Commons and check out the beautiful buildings and museums the university has to offer.
